8 HOTEL TIPS AND TRICKS FOR A MORE SATISFYING HOTEL STAY

Having being in the travel and hospitality industry as a key player, and having had our team members stay at several hotels and resorts around the world, we can confidently say that these tips and tricks will definitely help improve your next hotel stay.

  1. DO NOT TAKE THE TOWELS WITH YOU.
Many good hotels come with tiny little luxuries that you may be tempted to take home with you. The question is, what are the “do take home” and “don’t take home ” items? Well, while it’s ok to take home tiny little toiletries, pens and notepads, pls do not take home the towels, bathrobes, mugs or bed sheets.
  2. DO GIVE A TIP. IT’S OK TO DO SO.
Tipping is in fact a personal decision. You are not compelled to, however it is a kind gesture and every little act of kindness doesn’t go unnoticed. It may actually help improve your hotel stay, as the hotel staff will be glad to go above and beyond expectation to find ways to make your stay more pleasant. While tipping should certainly not be the motivational factor for hotel staff to do their jobs, it helps establish a rapport which is motivating. I would normally tip housekeeper, concierge staff, luggage handlers and room service.
  3. LEAVE THE “DO NOT DISTURB” SIGN ON THE DOOR.
This one is actually a hotel security tip from experts. It is suggested that you should always leave the “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door regardless of whether you’re in or out of the room. This gives the impression that you’re in and would prevent unauthorized entry into your room whilst you are away from the room. Only remove it when you actually want to be “disturbed” or when you need housekeeping to clean your room.
  4. BE A COURTEOUS HOTEL GUEST
Many good hotels do not only provide you with top notch hospitality service , they go above and beyond expectations to make you feel welcome and appreciated; It is only courteous to return the gesture. Be polite to hotel staff as much as you can. Maintain good hotel etiquette. Some little ways you can do this is by tidying up your room, watching over your children in public places and other acts of courtesy.
  5. WHY WATCH TV ON A SMALL SCREEN, WHEN YOU CAN GO BIGGG!
Many hotel TVs these days come with a HDMI port. Hence, unless you want to watch movies directly from your laptop, consider connecting it to the TV using a HDMI cable and boom, your favorite movie or TV show is on the big screen! Why settle for a small screen, when you can opt for a bigger one.
  6. PLEASE USE THE SAFE.
This is another hotel security tip that can save you from a big mishap. Always keep your valuables like your jewelry, passport, documents and laptop in the room safe. Use a password that you would easily remember. You may also consider depositing it at the front desk reception for safe keeping but do not by any means leave your valuables in plain sight.
  7. AN EXTRA LONG CHARGING CABLE OR A WIRELESS CHARGER IS A LIFE-SAVER
A lot of hotels do not have enough charging points for the number of electronic devices will travel with these days. You may want to consider taking an extra long cable charger, so you can charge your devices no matter where the charging point in your room is located. You may also consider taking a wireless charger/power bank which you can take along with you to the pool, restroom or the restaurant without looking for a charging point to plug up.
  8. SCREAMING WILL HARDLY GET YOU WHAT YOU WANT.
There’s a smarter way to get problems solved during your stay at the hotel. So, imagine you have a problem, your first Instinct would be to call the front desk but hey, the front desk is actually not the direct solution to your problem. Try doing this instead. Call the front desk and politely ask who you may speak to regarding this or that. ” Should I call the manager? “Should i call housekeeping”?. Their response would normally be that they will sort it out. Most importantly, don’t forget to ask for their names. Everybody likes to have their names associated with being a problem solver, so knowing their name is a bigger motivation for them to ensure that they get the problem solved. We’ll, does it mean that screaming has never worked when you need something done? Well sometimes it does work but it is the most effective strategy amongst options.
