So it was my first time travelling abroad and it was Dubai. I had heard endless stories of this beautiful and vibrant tourist city, so i finally gave in to my urge to visit it.
So here I was. Travelling alone and full of excitement about touring this place… maybe I might even meet someone special as I was single.
It was a 5-day trip but it seemed like things weren’t going to turn out as I planned. You see, I’m a workaholic by default and It wasn’t until I hit the cozy hotel bed that I realized I was exhausted. A project I had been working on had taken its toll on me. I slept…. and slept some more till I slept too much actually. I slept for 2 days straight, only waking up to eat or watch a little TV… and even that was only for a moment before I snuggled back into a cozy sleep under the sheets.
I finally dragged myself out on the third day starting off with the hotel’s sumptuous buffet breakfast. Sitting alone, I smiled and waved to a… (well, I think he passed for a) handsome young man sitting across the restaurant. I made nothing out of it as it was just a polite gesture but hey, this gesture would go down in history…LOL!!! He had walked over before I know it, asked if he could join me. I didn’t see why not.
Now this is where the unexplainable happened. By some strange coincidence , he happened to be a work colleague that I had exchanged several emails and phone calls with. What were the odds!! We were actually working on the same project but we had never met as he was stationed in another city. I almost thought out loud, “This is so insane!!!” The rest is history as they say.
The city of Dubai was even more breath-taking than I ever anticipated. I spent the next 3 days touring with him as we explored various places in the city. It was magical…. So magical that by the end of my trip, I knew he was the one for me. I was so certain that our meeting wasn’t a coincidence at all. I knew it was a divinely orchestrated moment in my history. Like the popular saying goes, “Sometimes the stars align and brings two people together..;” because here I was struck right through the heart by Cupid’s arrow.
I’ve gone on several vacations since then, but this one was by far my most favourite and most memorable.
This was 4 years ago. I just said YES!!!
